Mac Hansen, MHP
Clinical Intern
We all deserve joy, optimism and healthy relationships. Being human can be a vulnerable experience and there are many things we’re not taught or prepared for. We all seek acceptance and to be loved and cared for, yet many of us may struggle to find that as a result of past relationships and experiences. From changes within our own family unit to a rapidly changing world, we are juggling many pieces of our lives that positively and negatively affect our wellbeing. While life can be challenging and constantly evolving, I believe healing happens within supportive relationships that make space for growth and repair. My goal is to create a space of safety and trust, where the client feels free to share their stories absent of judgment. You’re the expert of your own story; it’s my job to learn about your life experience and try to understand the pieces that feel heavy and overwhelming, with the goal of developing new skills and expanding compassion for self. Therapy is meant to be a collaborative experience and it’s my hope to work alongside you on your journey. I aim to create a space that is warm and honest. When appropriate, I believe humor is a wonderful tool in healing. My therapeutic approach is informed by narrative, internal family systems and experiential theories. I seek to integrate my background in systemic thinking into all areas of my practice, with the goal of honoring individuals from all backgrounds, sexualities and gender expressions. I strive to align my work in therapy with my own professional and personal belief in the importance of social justice. My areas of clinical interest include working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, attachment issues, ADHD, gender and sexuality exploration, and trauma. I received my B.A. in Sociology at Metropolitan State University and pursued studies in Sustainability and Community Development at MSU - Moorhead. This multidisciplinary background sets a foundation for my systemic-based approach to therapy. My passion to work with others in their journey of self-exploration and healing brought me to the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. I enjoy summers at the lake, biking, discovering new restaurants and spending time with friends and family.
